TrustRadius Insights are summaries of user sentiment data from TrustRadius reviews and, when necessary, 3rd-party data sources. Have feedback on this content? Let us know!

User-Friendly and Intuitive Interface: Many users have praised the software for its user-friendly and intuitive interface, making it easy to navigate and perform tasks. Several reviewers have mentioned that they found it straightforward to add or change items in the board packet, indicating a positive experience with the software's usability.

Convenient Electronic Signatures: The ability to easily add electronic signatures to agenda items has been appreciated by multiple reviewers. This feature has made it convenient for board members to sign off on important documents without any hassle.

Centralized Resource Center: The centralized Resource Center has received positive feedback from users as it allows companies to securely upload significant documents like Bylaws. This ensures easy access for board members, according to several reviewers who have highlighted this beneficial feature of the software.

Cons: Limited file type compatibility: Some users have mentioned that OnBoard does not support all file types, such as movies that are not embedded in PowerPoint files. This limitation can be frustrating for those who regularly work with various types of media files. Syncing issues and IT dependency: Several users have experienced syncing issues during seasonal time changes, which sometimes prevent them from accessing OnBoard. It has been reported that IT department assistance is required to resolve these issues, causing inconvenience and delays in using the platform. Additional cost for new features: A common complaint among users is the fact that new features in OnBoard come at an additional cost. Some users feel disappointed by this and suggest including new features within the already purchased package to provide better value for money.

Users highly recommend using OnBoard for board meeting needs, especially for non-profit entities. They find OnBoard to be a reasonably priced and user-friendly system with great support, suitable for board members of all technical abilities. Users suggest utilizing customer support, attending webinars, and running test meetings when using OnBoard. Additionally, users recommend conducting a competitive analysis and comparing OnBoard to other providers, as it offers great functionality at a reasonable price. Users believe that OnBoard is easier to use than BoardVantage and recommend it for any organization with a board of directors. They advise running through all the tutorials provided by OnBoard for a better understanding of the software. However, if an organization is a small nonprofit with low-key action items, users recommend using other platforms like Google Drive.

OnBoard Board Management Software has allowed our small nonprofit to continue to be member led by our board and committees during the pandemic. Although we had planned to switch to OnBoard Board Management Software before the pandemic, mainly to eliminate the need for so many emails and paper copies of board and committee materials being mailed around, since the pandemic, OnBoard Board Management Software has allowed for our meetings to be conducted virtually up to and including board votes on resolutions and budgets.
  • Virtual voting
  • Virtual meetings with Zoom integration
  • Housing of all board books and meeting calendars in one place with integration with Outlook Calendar
  • The Zoom functionality isn't the same as the full Zoom suite, such as Zoom Conference
  • The file system isn't as easy to move files around in and some file types aren't supported
  • It is expensive to bring in large volumes of users
It works well for a small nonprofit with an active board and committees. You can build board books and committee materials in the software package for everyone to see, including the PowerPoint slides and supplementary materials in Excel, Word, or PowerPoint. Unfortunately, it is expensive for large volumes of users, so it isn't appropriate for full member usage or for allowing members to have access to documents.
  • Seamless integration of the board book, calendar, slides and supplementary materials for meetings.
  • Robust file system for background materials
  • Nice calendar function where you can go back and follow a meeting after it occurred
  • It's helped maintain board and committee involvement in the nonprofit since the start of COVID
  • It has allowed our meetings to go virtual with little effect on workflow
  • It allows us to better track needed association materials than we have in the past
We did our software comparison before the pandemic, so we might view things differently now. But for us, the customer service at OnBoard was the best and we thought it would likely be the best for our board, which has many people on it who aren't very IT savvy.

OnBoard [Board Management] was the right product at the right time for our small nonprofit. Like many others, we had to shift from in-person board meetings to virtual meetings with the onset of the COVID pandemic. Luckily, we had already decided to purchase OnBoard [Board Management] prior to the pandemic, mainly as a way for our association to be greener (printing less paper at board meetings) and allow for directors to read board meeting materials ahead of [time]. [It] also allows us at the association to make amendments to the board documents all [the] way up to the meeting itself. Little did we know that almost overnight all of our meetings would go from all-day in-person events to marathon zoom sessions. But, with OnBoard [Board Management] already in place, the transition was almost seamless and it is hard to imagine how we would have navigated the past two years without the package in place. Frankly, our meetings are more efficient now than they were pre-pandemic and much more efficient than they were when we were printing binders for each board member. All in all, I love OnBoard [Board Management] and strongly recommend it.
  • Assembles board books
  • Provides for remote votes on resolutions
  • Easy to navigate
  • Great roles and permissions functions
  • Nice filing system for historical documents
  • Not all file types can be saved in OnBoard [Board Management] such as movies and things like that which aren't embedded in PowerPoint files.
  • Permissions can be unwieldy at times. It would be nice to have one screen that shows by [the] user all of their permissions.
  • The zoom functionality on OnBoard [Board Management] is different than the typical Zoom package as it doesn't provide for meetings vs conferences.
  • Files aren't saved logically sometimes.
  • Hard to move files from one folder to another.
It is great for small nonprofits with active boards who receive lots of materials ahead of board meetings and have votes to do ahead [of] or during meetings themselves. It is less suited to sharing information with very wide groups of members as you pay by [the] user. So, for very large groups we use Box instead to share files with others.
  • Board books
  • Voting on resolutions
  • Maintaining board documents
  • Huge ROI for us during COVID. Frankly, I don't know what we would have done without it.
  • [It has] allowed for very interactive remote board meetings.
  • [It] has allowed for more board interaction between board meetings due to documents being all saved logically in one place.
We stacked up [to] four options at the outset and weighed such factors as [the] cost and feel of the platform. I can say that each offered unique advantages, however, in the end, OnBoard's customer service seemed to be the best fit for us, and looking back on it for all of the training our board needed, paying a little more for that very good customer service was a good investment for us.

Varies from staff to board members to association committee members. For staff, we upload documents and resolutions for [a] vote. Board members and committee members both read the information, and, when appropriate, cast votes. OnBoard [Board Management] is where all of our association's governing documents, calendar of events, send aheads for meetings, etc., are housed.

OnBoard [Board Management] provides very good customer support. So, although some comfort with IT systems is a plus, the OnBoard [Board Management] team does a great job of training. Clearly, understanding Zoom and file management are needed to make meetings work. But, those are separate from specific OnBoard [Board Management] needs. The main thing to keep ahead of is the permissions so everyone who needs to "see" certain things can. That has been the greatest confusion to date for us where we think certain members can see things, but their permissions are not set up correctly for the particular event or file.
  • Board meetings
  • Committee meetings
  • 990 filing
  • Hold virtual meetings
  • Bulid board books
  • Keep records of votes on various resolutions
  • Conflict of interest surveys
  • Policy development
  • Moving documents around with track changes/version control
I couldn't imagine us doing our business without OnBoard [Board Management]. It has become the way we communicate with our Board and run our meetings. Frankly, I have no desire to go back even when we are meeting in person to paper binders for each board member. It truly has been a blessing coming out of COVID for us.

Previously, our board members were using the traditional pen and paper for their meetings. Thick packets that took up time to flip through and sometimes were missing pages. With OnBoard the board meetings are a breeze. It's simple to use, even for the least tech-savvy people in the meetings. It makes sense to them and the platform has become an essential tool over time. Since we've first started using it it's only become better with the updates. There is virtually no housekeeping to do and their support team is great should we have any questions. Stop thinking about it and get on board with OnBoard!
  • Organization
  • Ease-of-use
  • Fast
  • Meeting links have disappeared on rare occasion
  • Integration with Office 365 would be nice
  • Larger text option for more elderly users
Any company that holds regular board meetings will find OnBoard useful. Different types of meetings, like an all-staff meeting, would probably not find it to be the best option, or at least not utilize it to its full potential. The agenda shows upcoming meetings in a well-organized format. Even during the pandemic when everyone was remote, OnBoard proved itself to still be extremely useful.
  • Dashboard
  • Calendar
  • Messenger
  • Lower cost of supplies (paper)
  • Efficient use of time because of less prep time
  • Some people can be opposed to change, especially with technology
As much as I'd love to contribute to this portion, my company began using OnBoard shortly before I started with them. Because of that, I cannot give a list of alternatives that we considered. What I can say is that OnBoard shined to those who evaluated it and that it seemed like a no-brainer.
